Is Fried Chicken Keto Friendly?

When you started your keto diet, you’ve probably been blasted with a series of questions by your friends and family.

Some of them might have asked you whether it would be good for you to eat so much fat. Or they would ask if you are missing out on all of your old favorite foods. And while they are just asking these out of good intentions, you cannot change the fact that there are still a lot of misconceptions when we are talking about low carb, high-fat diets.

Provided that you’re eating quality fat sources and not processed junk, I would say that YES, it’s very healthy to eat a high-fat diet.

And talking about missing your old favorite foods, for me, not really! Before starting a Keto Diet, I loved fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy. And just like you, I also wondered if Fried Chicken is keto-approved and if not how I could make the fried chicken I love to work with my new Ketogenic Diet. Until I discover this crispy, crunchy keto fried chicken recipe by Makinze Gore

  • Kosher salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • 2large eggs

  • 1/2 c. heavy cream

  • 3/4 c. almond flour

  • 1 1/2 c. finely crushed pork rinds

  • 1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan

  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp. paprika

For the spicy mayo

  • 1/2 c. mayonnaise

  • 1 1/2 tsp. hot sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400° and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Pat chicken dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.

  2. In a shallow bowl whisk together eggs and heavy cream. In another shallow bowl, combine almond flour, pork rinds, Parmesan, garlic powder, and paprika. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. Working one at a time, dip chicken in egg mixture and then in almond flour mixture, pressing to coat. Place chicken on a prepared baking sheet.

  4. Bake until the chicken is golden and the internal temperature reaches 165°, about 45 minutes.

  5. Meanwhile, make the dipping sauce: In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise and hot sauce. Add more hot sauce depending on the preferred spiciness level.=

  6. Serve chicken warm with dipping sauce.
