I Am Not Losing Weight on Keto - How Can I Fix It?

A lot of people on the keto journey ask, “Why am I not losing weight on keto? Why am I plateauing and can’t get away from it?”. Well, a lot of people don’t realize this - if you need to lose more than 20 pounds for more than 2 years, there’s a big chance that you’re metabolically inefficient. Meaning, your body doesn’t utilize energy very well and you don’t metabolize fat very efficiently.

What hinders your body from losing weight?

The reality with keto is that there’s a switch in your body that needs to be switched on. Yes, one of the main reasons why your keto diet is somewhat failing is that the switch in your body is still switched off. So if you’re on a keto diet for 2 to 5 years and you’re barely losing weight, then, unfortunately, that switch has been switched off for quite a few years already.

If you were born in the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s, then you have been exposed to excessive consumption compared to your ancestors. And because of this, it turned off this GLUT4 transporter that doesn’t allow your body to be highly efficient. Sadly, when that transporter is switched off, no ketones would be produced that well.

Paint this picture - you don’t do well with carbohydrates and you gain fat really fast. So what you decided to do is do a ketogenic diet or simply a low-carb diet. And now, you don’t have any glucose or carbohydrates to use for fuel. You’re hoping that your body is producing ketones, but on the negative side, what if it’s not? What if you’re not producing ketones efficiently and quickly?

Well, it’s not about losing weight now; it’s now about the energy to your brain. That’s because ketones are a very primary fuel source for the brain energy and even your muscle system. Talking about your heart, it also loves ketones.

However, if you’re not producing enough, you’re basically starving. Your body has fat but it can’t use it very well. It’s because the switch has been turned off and you don’t have glucose or any other food sources coming in. So now, you’re just depleting yourself.

Most likely, if you’ve plateaued, your energy levels are not that good, you can’t sleep well, you feel grumpy, or you feel moody. Why does this happen though? The reason is your ketone levels aren’t able to produce. And unfortunately, there’s a high chance that you’re not going to achieve your desired results.

To master the keto diet, you have to commit 6 months to a year to do that. Additionally, you might have to force-exercise aggressively though I don’t recommend it, especially if you need to lose 50 pounds or more. It’s not worth the joint wear-and-tear. So you have to start forcing your body to produce more ketones, which is almost like a survival state. Realistically, it’s not sustainable, and therefore, you might want to quit your keto journey anyway.

What can you do to turn that important switch back on?

If you’re not going to commit 6 months to 1 year to your keto diet journey, then you’re not going to turn the switch back on. Turning that important switch on is very important because once it’s switched on, the body can start metabolizing fat more efficiently. Your brain will function a lot better and so many things in your body will start to work better.

This is the reason why we’ve been drinking ketones. I must say that this is proven and tested as I observed its effects very closely. At this point, I just want to be the first to tell you that if you can’t lose weight or you’re having a hard time achieving it, it’s not your fault. It’s not your fault if you can’t metabolize carbs very well. One possible reason is that maybe you’re genetically built that way. You might be built for power and not for endurance.

You can always change things if you’ll focus on moving forward. You can have decisions that you can make that are going to shift your life forever. To be quite honest, I don’t think you’re going to be successful without drinking ketones long-term.

I’ve seen it over 5 years - there are literally thousands of people’s lives that have completely transformed by just drinking ketones. They’re getting on and off the horse until they learn how their body and system work. After that, they get their desired result and maintain it.

Now, if you feel you’re doing everything right, you feel you’re not one of those people who failed in their weight loss journey, and you feel amazing but you’re not losing any body fat, there might be a problem. You probably increased your fat intake rapidly and too quickly.

Remember, the ketogenic was originally developed for cognition, epilepsy, and brain function. It wasn’t mainly designed for fat loss. Yes, they were tracking their body composition but they would also lose a little bit of muscle mass, and they didn’t do it right so there was also a bit of a problem there. What they were truly tracking are their brain function and their health. What’s the main point?

Well, the point is, if you feel good on keto, you may just need to lower your fat a little bit. Don’t trust the measuring tools you use and the apps that tell you what you should eat and avoid.

The only one you should trust is none other than yourself. Basically, just eat when you’re hungry, and stop when you’re full. Don’t increase your fat intake but don’t be afraid of fat. Let that be your guide. And if you’re starting to lean out really well and you’re looking good already, then increase your protein and fat a little bit and see if you get results after.
